Trades West Web Services
Making the Web Work,
for Working People.
Trades West's Own
|
Trades West's own site has fun with javascript and cascading style sheets (CSS) to place most of the site's content on one page. Visibility of content elements changes in reponse to mouse movement over the menus.
Colours and the "denim" top bar are drawn from an earlier version of the site for familiarity. Use of Tux, Wilber and Gnu icons identify this site as Free software friendly, while the text logo sums up what Trades West exists to achieve. |
IS Electric Ltd
|
The IS Electric site was designed for a clean, simple layout with custom, industry-related icons and light use of additional graphics. CSS positioning frees the site from search-engine-befuddling frames or hard to maintain table layout. Judicious use of PHP further simplifies site maintenance.
As with all Trades West designed sites, DamSpam protects the IS Electric email addresses from spam-bots. |
Friesen Mantel Company
|
The Friesen Mantel Company had a handful of photos hosted on a third party service that was soon to be discontinued. More photos and scanned images resided on CDs and computers in the office. Trades West assisted with registration of friesenmantels.com and setup of hosting and email for the new domain. This removed the reliance on third parties for Friesen Mantels' on-line needs. Trades West then gathered Friesen Mantel Co. images, prepared them for the web and created a website with dynamic display of mantels and fireplace surrounds that also allows easy reference to the Friesen Mantel Company hard-copy catalogue. Note: This one is a work in progress! |
TLC PetCare
|
TLC PetCare provides a very high level of personalized care for dogs. Walking, daycare or holiday care without kenneling. A spa experience for your dog. TLC PetCare had produced their own web page, but needed help with next steps. Trades West handled domain registration and hosting setup, helped TLC get started with ftp software, configured e-mail accounts (server and client-side) and protected e-mail addresses with DamSpam. As a first step to help TLC PetCare continue developing their site, Trades West added meta tags for indexing by search engines and submitted the site to Google and other search engines. |
BCCC
|
The BC Cycling Coalition website was maintained by volunteers over several years using different WYSWYG editors. As a result file sizes were bloated with broken and redundant code and the site was becoming inconsistent and unreliable. Trades West cleaned up the code, moving consistent page elements to separate files to be rendered via server-side includes. This resulted in source files that are much easier for volunteers to update while easy templates were provided for creating new pages. DamSpam protects against abuse of e-mail addresses throughout the site. |
VACC
|
Trades West provided updates and technical support on the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition site. To expand the VACC's on-line capabilities Trades West helped select a new host for the site and ensure a smooth transition to the new host.
Image is of the VACC's old site. A complete site redesign has since been done by Wovenland which included setting up VACC volunteers with Contribute software and templates. This enabled key volunteers to look after routine site updates. Trades West continues to provide assistance as required in areas of hosting and email account management. |
David and Lisa
|
David and Lisa are an international love-story, with relatives and friends across Canada and in the United States. Their website provided a single point of information and communication during planning of their wedding and afterward, as well as a handy way to share the event with those who could not attend.
Trades West scripting provided desired functionality while ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Trades West handled domain registration and hosting, configured e-mail accounts (server and client-side) and protected e-mail addresses with DamSpam. |
